My textile artwork incorporates many textile techniques, the most dominant techniques are appliqué or collage and free machine embroidery, my work has evolved over the years and my most recent work is mixed media as papers and paint are often used.
I have started working in a series, developing a theme or topic making 4 or 5 works at the same time, sometimes using a printing technique called breakdown printing as a starting point..
This is a very exciting technique where the dye in a carrier is painted onto the back of a screen and when a clear print medium is dragged over the screen the dye breaks down in a gradual and unpredictable way, causing very exciting fabric prints.
These prints have then been collaged with other fabrics, papers and stitched into with machine and hand stitching.
