Local textile designer Jo Hill will be opening her studio doors next month for her Winter Open Studio. Following on from the success of the previous event in May, the Open Studio will take place across the weekend of 7th and 8th December and will once again be raising money for Staffordshire Women’s Aid.

Jo, who lives in Whitgreave (near Stafford), says

“I’m really looking forward to showcasing two new ranges at the Open Studio, including the Highland Cow and the Blackbird ranges. They are the perfect colours for autumn and winter and will be available as homeware, tableware and gifts.”

Jo’s work is created on her sewing machine, using a technique known as ‘free motion embroidery’ where she draws her original designs onto fabric. Her work is inspired by British wildlife and the hidden beauty of nature, and she is now offering a new and expanding range of kits to inspire other crafters. Jo says,

“The kits were really popular at the events I exhibited at over the summer, including the Festival of Quilts and Kirstie Allsopp’s Handmade Festival. It is great to know that other creatives are getting hooked on the exciting technique of free motion embroidery!”

Following on from the success of the sewing kits, Jo has now been invited to present a guest programme on the television shopping channel Sewing Quarter which will air on 1st December. Once you have seen Jo on the television, come and see her in person at the Open Studio! The studio is at Pine Ridge, Whitgreave, Staffordshire and the doors will be open 10am-2pm on Saturday 7th December, and 11am-2pm on Sunday 8th December. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see Jo at work and take part in a workshop too.

All donations from refreshments will be given to Women’s Aid. For more information please call Jo on 07814286462 or visit www.johilltextiles.com.
