Practise your free motion embroidery technique as well as your design skills, and add interest to your lampshade with a selection of beautiful wools. You will be rewarded with a lovely lampshade for your home.
This kit gives you everything you need to create the lampshade including the printed front panel, the lampshade frames, PVC and tape. The instructions guide you through every stage of making the lampshade, and you'll also receive Jo's detailed tips on getting started with free motion embroidery. The pack also includes a detailed photograph of the finished design so you can be inspired by Jo's technique. The finished lampshade measures 20cm (diameter) x 18cm (height).
Jo's design acts as a template and excellent starting point for you to add your own embellishments and practise the exciting art of free motion embroidery. You will also learn the professional way of making up a lampshade.
Free motion embroidery is an exciting technique where you lower the feed dogs on your sewing machine and move the fabric around under the needle in any direction. You do not need a specialist needle or thread, but you do need an embroidery foot (also known as a darning foot). Free motion embroidery is also known by several other names including free machine embroidery, free hand sewing, thread painting, free motion stitching and free motion sewing.
