CODE: 20th NOV > OUT OF STOCK IN STOCK
Make a beautiful lampshade inspired by our wonderful countryside.
On this course you will spend the day in my garden studio in the Staffordshire countryside creating a lovely lampshade measuring 20cm x 20cm. Lampshade kits will be supplied and this includes the frames and the backing fabric to make your shade. You can create your lampshade for either a lampbase or for a ceiling light.
This is an intermediate workshop so experience of doing free motion embroidery is required before doing this course. This would be the perfect follow on to my Free Motion Landscapes workshop (but you don't need to have done this before attending this workshop).
If you are new to free motion embroidery I would recommend the Flowers and Grasses Workshop to start with. You will need to feel fairly confident using your machine to 'draw' with as we won't spend much time on the basics - we'll launch straight in to creating samples for your lampshade, and then your finished piece!
About the course
You will spend the morning learning different techniques from my demonstrations, then putting them into practice. After lunch you will make your finished piece. Once you've stitched out your unique creation, you will then spend the last hour of the day making it up into a lampshade. A detailed handout with photographs will also be provided.
I will be teaching a variety of techniques that you will be able to use to create your unique design, inspired by landscapes, trees and the great British countryside and its wonderful colours. You will create you lampshade using appliqué fabrics, free-motion embroidery and wools. It will produce a lovely glow when illuminated!
See the photos for examples of my own landscape lampshades.
What previous participants say:
"I enjoyed learning different sewing skills that I have never tried before, and which I want to practise again, in particular the 'free sewing ' on the lampshades."
"Friendly atmosphere, clear instruction and encouragement from Jo. I felt filled with confidence, and as a result produced something I was surprised I was so pleased with!"
"A really lovely day. Jo was so generous with her materials, ideas and expertise. The pace of the day was just right and I managed to produce 2 pieces which I'm really pleased with. Even though I've done free motion machine embroidery before, I learnt so much about different techniques, materials and processes - and Jo made it all look so easy! "
