About Me

Jo Hill

My favourite hand made felt necklace

I have lived in Stone from the age of 5 and went to local schools then Stafford College to gain a foundation in Art.  I then studied a degree in textiles, on completion I set up a weaving business with the help of the Princes Youth Business Trust and wove rugs for the general public and some shops, Habitat being the most renowned.

After marriage and 2 children my career took the more conventional form of making soft furnishings for the home.  As the children grew up I had the desire to be more creative and arty again, so I studied many textile courses at evening class over the next 11 years gaining City and Guilds qualifications in.....

  • Soft furnishings,
  • Interior Design,
  • teaching (adults part time)
  • paper making,silk paper,
  • textile dyeing techniques, batique, printing, stenciling, discharge and painting.
  • felt making, using mariono fleece to create, bags, jewellery, wall hangings and art work.
  • free machine embroidery, couching yarns, applique and hand stitiching.

Teaching

I  teach Adults, I day a week, soft furnishings for Stafford College at Brewood and Acton Trussell I enjoy teaching, it gets me out and about and it's satisfying inspiring others to make 'things'.

Studio

I make curtains and blinds from home in a studio that used to be a  garage.  In April 2011 I moved all my embroidery equipment and fabrics to 'Unit 12' Tixall Heath farm, Stafford.

Hobbies

I love my allotment, it keeps me sane.
